BAF53 is required for mitotic progression

Abstract
The progression of the cell cycle into the G2 and M phases is orchestrated by the induction of G2/M-specific genes. Many of the G2/M-specific genes play roles in the timely entry and termination of mitosis and the faithful segregation of mitotic chromosomes. In this study, we found that BAF53 knockdown led to a cell cycle delay in the G2 phase, a mis-segregation of mitotic chromosomes, and an escape from the mitotic arrest induced by the spindle assembly checkpoint. The induction of cyclin B1, CENP-F, Aurora A, and Aurora B was either delayed or suppressed in BAF53-depleted cells. These data suggest that the dysregulation of G2/M-specific gene expression could be responsible for the pleiotropic mitotic defects observed in BAF53-depleted cells.
